Introduction:

Homelessness in Southern California is a growing crisis, exacerbated by rising living costs and limited affordable housing. This trend has led to an increase in individuals experiencing homelessness, particularly in Orange County. Every two years, the County of Orange and its public departments conduct a survey to assess various factors, including demographics, mental health, and resource availability.

Project Brief:

For this project, I developed the branding for the event and created all marketing assets, including the event logo, social media posts, and volunteer shirts. Additionally, I designed a visual report to highlight the survey findings, making it an accessible tool for informing the public and state government about the scope of homelessness in Orange County.

Research and Inspiration:

As a designer, I’m inspired by visual infographics that transform complex data into digestible, engaging visuals. My goal was to create a report that would be clear and impactful for both top officials and the general public, simplifying the data without sacrificing important insights.

Research and Inspiration:

As a designer, I’m inspired by visual infographics that transform complex data into digestible, engaging visuals. My goal was to create a report that would be clear and impactful for both top officials and the general public, simplifying the data without sacrificing important insights.

Concept Development:

A key challenge in this project was ensuring that each major talking point had dedicated space to showcase the data clearly. This approach allowed each page to communicate a focused message, contributing to the broader narrative without limiting the scope by page count.

Design Execution:

Using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, I created and refined the graphics before incorporating them into the report. The order of pages was carefully structured to tell a cohesive story about homelessness in Orange County and the steps we can take to address it.

Outcome and Analysis:

The report provided the public with a clearer understanding of the homelessness crisis in Orange County and offered state government officials in Sacramento valuable insights to help allocate funding more effectively to support local resources.

Conclusion:

This project underscored that homelessness is a significant issue in Orange County, one that requires public awareness and community involvement. A visually engaging report made the topic easier to understand and encouraged public participation in addressing the issue. Future reports can build on this foundation, allowing for quick updates and continued transparency.
