Research & Inspiration:
I began using Figma in early 2023, and each new feature has made me appreciate the tool even more—I wish I’d discovered it years earlier! For this marketplace prototype, I familiarized myself with Figma’s robust capabilities to create a fully functional website prototype that felt live, even though it wasn’t yet online. I also researched large hotel chains like Hilton and Marriott to understand the structure of their membership and loyalty rewards systems. This research helped guide the structure of each page and the types of products that members could save on.
Design Execution:
Figma’s interface provides an expansive canvas to work with, allowing each page to be sized to real-world dimensions with high-resolution precision. After designing and filling each content block, I moved on to the prototyping phase. Here, I used interactive nodes to ensure that every link, button, action, and animation was fully functional for presentation. When the prototype was shared with the client, they could explore the site as if it were live. Each content area was designed with templating in mind, making it easy for the development team to integrate user content later. Figma’s collaborative features also enabled stakeholders to leave comments directly on the prototype, giving me clear feedback for any revisions.
Outcome and Conclusion:
Creating a large-scale prototype in Figma proved invaluable for this and future projects. When El Cid Shop at Home launched in late 2024, the number of paid users surged, yielding returns that validated all our efforts. This prototype became the first of many for other clients seeking a similar membership and product-based structure.
